Republicans abandon Bush
The fall in DC has begun, as Republicans preparing for November elections begin to distance themselves from President Bush and his failed Iraq War. Of course, Republicans can't push too hard, because they supported the President's War. To change course now would be distinctly un-Republican [never admit a mistake, even when your pants are around your knees]. But they are claiming that the President has made errors: not enough troops, too many troops, no schedules for departure, too many schedules for departure...Anything to make them appear to have an idea.
Of course, the Republicans have little to fear in November, as the Democrats are themselves still without a plan. The biggest Democratic splash of 2006 has been an stiff ex-Vice President's movie about global warming. The Demos will pick up a couple seats, but don't expect things in Washington DC to change much until the Demos find a new party line.
After Gore's defeat in 2000, we became a one-party nation. As the Republicans crumble, are we moving towards a no-party nation?
